Realising the potential from your air
compressor, reclaiming the energy
otherwise wasted.

ENERGY BOX is a new easy to install way of reclaiming some of the energy consumed by any standard oil lubricated screw compressors, energy that is otherwise wasted. By connecting ENERGY BOX to the compressor we are able to provide hot or heated water as a by-product of the compressors operation. This means that we recover the energy from the oil circuit on the compressor, thereby replacing  the energy normally used to fuel boilers or heaters.

This heated water can be used for a variety of uses in  wash rooms for instance or indeed any process that requires heated or hot water (up to 70ºC). This recovery of energy can be truly significant in reducing energy bills and improving efficiency. For instance with a 37 kW machine the recoverable energy available is up to 29.9 kW which  may equate to a heating cost of over £6000 per annum based on 4000 operating hours.

ENERGY BOX is available in sizes to suit any make of oil injected screw
compressor from 11-90 kW. Simply select the model based on the kW of the installed compressor and begin saving energy –Simple.

Additional information for recovery of compressors
  • 80 to 93 percent of the electrical energy is converted into heat and lost through radiation losses

  • §Energy recovery systems can capture part of that energy wasted without any additional inputs

  • The amount of energy (heat) recovered depends on the size of the compressor and the use factor (hrs/year)

  • §Recoveries between 50 to 90 percent can be achieved

  • §
§The heat can be then transformed into useful work heating air or water

  • §Water temperatures up to 70°C can be achieved

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the energy recovered?

The air at atmospheric pressure contains a base level of energy. The compression increases the air pressure and raises its temperature, and therefore the available energy. In order to maintain the compressor tolerances, the excess of heat is removed via
the air or oil cooling system while the compressed air is cooled down to make it suitable for the intended use.
Using a heat exchanger it is possible to extract this energy and transform it into useful work reintroducing it into the process for
heating air or process water.

Where do the savings come from?

The main direct savings come from a reduction in the amount of external fuel sources used during the application process.
Besides, additional savings can be expected from a reduction on maintenance costs of associated firing fuel equipment (fans, burners,
ducts, ovens, etc…) or improvements on the overall efficiency on other compressed air equipments (compressors, regeneration
dryers, etc…).
Potential savings are dependent on the load cycle of the compressor, the cooling mechanism and the application given to the
recovered heat.

What can be the typical applications for the recovered heat?

The heat recovered can be used for pre-heating water or for heating air providing a wide range of applications that can be grouped
according to the duty or use cycle.
Recovered heat can be used for basic stationary and intermittent use (normally 2000 to 3000 h/yr) such as:
supplemental space heating, general heating, hot water for showers, toilets, laundries…
Or used directly in the process in a continuous duty (normally 6000 to 8000 h/yr) such as:
industrial drying, preheating aspirated air for oil burners, central water heating, makeup air heating, water preheating for boiler
systems, industrial cleaning processes, plating operations, heat pumps, laundries, or any other application where hot water is
required.
Recoverable heat from a compressed air system is not however, normally hot enough to be used to produce steam directly.
